Generally the title of a poem gives ask a clear indication of its theme.But sometime it does more than that. It acquaints us with its tone . The title of the present poem does the same. The poem is about an act of killing. It is given a ceremonial treatment. A tree cannot be killed by a simple below of knife. Even ' hack and chop' cannot finish it. The bleeding bark soon heals up. Then appear twigs. The tree gets back to its former size. To kill the tree,it is to be uprooted. For, it's strength lies in its roots. Then it is seasoned well. Now the title of the poem ironically suggest the heartless ness underline the cruel job. It has an elegies. It brilliantly captures the mood of the poem. So, the tittle of the poem is apt .
